Peacock Marble Carvings
Return to our Homepage
We just received a shipment of this wonderful material called Peacock Marble. Following is the information provided to us by the source:
Peacock Marble is mined in Yunnan Province in Southwest China. Recrystallization of limestone by heat and pressure in the earth's crust during the formation of the Himalayas caused the limestone to change in texture and makeup. Fossilized materials, along with its original carbonate minerals, recrystallized and formed large, coarse grains of calcite. Impurities present in the limestone affected the mineral composition of the marble that forms.
These minerals that result from impurities give Peacock Marble its wide variety of colors. There are more than ten colors that can be found. Coloring is dependent on the various minerals that result from impurities, including Serpentine, Manganese, Iron Uranium, Silicon Dioxide, Hematite, Calcite, Limonite, Carbon and Copper.
The photos below are from this first shipment, and the individual items seen here may have been sold by the time you visit.
If you absolutely must have one of these pieces please call the store and ask about it's availability.
